You Have to Check Out TED....

Morning
300 pixels/inch

I was checking out Sue's blog, the Ancient Artist. On it she was discussing a video that she had seen. This video is on TED and is one of several hundred on this site.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free. Almost 200 talks from our archive are now available, with more added each week. These videos are released under a Creative Commons license, so they can be freely shared and reposted.

Today, TED is therefore best thought of as a global community. It's a community welcoming people from every discipline and culture who have just two things in common: they seek a deeper understanding of the world, and they hope to turn that understanding into a better future for us all.

I watched the video that Sue was discussing and then another and then another! I am hooked, these are some of the most intelligent talks ever put in one place. You may not always agree with what is being said, but you will come away thinking.

Here is one to get you started. (this one is environmental, there are many other topics) I was impressed with her passion on her topic.

  1. Paulette- This TED video clip may be one of the most impassioned, moving and articulate presentations I've ever seen. Thank you for highlighting this particular segment. I sat, unmoving for the full 19 minutes. This young woman is powerful and wise.

I'm impressed with the technology you use to augment your art.
Visiting your site is always so interesting.

  2. Paulette, thanks for sharing this with us. I am moved. I felt the need to do something rather than just sit and think about it.

  3. Bonnie,
    Thank you!
I did the same. I don't live anywhere near NY but I couldn't help thinking of our West end, an area of town where I find it hard to breath just driving by. She makes me think we can do better by our neighbors.
    Indiaartist,
She is an amazing and impassioned speaker. I have no doubt that she will reacher her goals in the Bronx and will then move on to help others in the same way.
