New tricks.....

There are several people working on stippling or pointillism projects around the web and I have wanted to give it a try. Jeanette and Jennifer are working on rock drawings for Jeanette's rock challenge. There is also M.Ramos over at DS that does amazing pictures.

I found a pack of Staedtler pigment liner pens for reasonable. They say they are pigmented ink, archival, acid-free and come in 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7. I also finally found a sheet of stonehenge paper.

I did this duck with the 0.1 pen on stonehenge, 3.5x2.5, ATC size. I am pretty happy with how he turned out. My Study of a Mallard Duck came in handy for having a good feel for how he looks.

Let me know what you think. Also am I using the right supplies and using the right terms to describe what I am doing.

  1. This is wonderful! You've done beautifully with this technique. Isn't it fun to do?

The micron pens are fine to start with and a .30 tip is about average to get a feel for pen and ink work.

Just be careful about the surface you use for pen work. It should be smooth, otherwise the fibres clog the pen.

  3. looks great :D well done!

Like Jeanette said, you have to watch what surface you use as it can clog the pen and an uneven surface can be harder to use this technique on. Stonehenge is almost a bit too soft for this way of working. it does work but can clog the pens afer awhile and in some cases cause the ink to bleed.

  7. Hi Jeanette,
It is fun to do, I was a bit surprised at that. It's a bit like doing circulism, you get kind of a lost in your work feeling.

    Thank you Elena!

Thank you Jennifer, I see what you gals are talking about. My pen every once in a while would barely give ink, then would go back to normal. I'll have to try a different paper.

Thank you Christine. I plan to try some more and get a feeling what subjects do well with stippling.

    Thank you Jan!

    Tank you Martina!
