This adorable guy came up on the weekly challenge at Drawspace. Siks did a great job photographing him, beautiful shadows and highlights.
I have been doing sketches in charcoal lately. It is a great medium to work with. It lays out really fast and mistakes can be corrected on the fly. I finally stopped trying to work small and have taken out a big 11x14 inch sketch book to draw in.
I tried to give the bear some texture by dotting on some charcoal and then using my figure to tap in more texture.
Now I have to figure out how to preserve my pictures so they don't just disappear. I suppose a spray finish.
charcoal works better large :) at least i think it does.
ReplyDeletei love how fast working with charcoal is, hate that my hands end up so dirty lol
spray finish will help, putting a piece of paper over the drawing after being sprayed that wont move works well if you are not going to frame it as well.
good job with the texture of the bear and the bow :)
Oh, that's a great job, Paulette! I've not used charcoal but think if I did ever try it, it would have to be in pencil form! The mess from pastel pencils is bad enough!
ReplyDeleteSpray fixative will help but to be completely sure it won't smudge, you will probably have to frame it. Glassine sheets over pastel work well for storage without framing & would probably work for charcoal as well. As Jennifer said, you'd just have to keep it from moving.
he looks adorable :)
